Champions! Footballers and badminton players take top trophies

Footballers were celebrating becoming the champions of the KickOff@3 charity tournament run by the Metropolitan Police at the same time that the College Badminton team finished top of the AOC Mixed League!

The double success was the highlight of a notable week for sport which saw many students studying courses ranging from A Level Maths, Spanish, Religious Studies, Geography and Criminology to BTEC Business and Sport come together outside of their curriculum studies to represent Havering Sixth Form in various competitions.

The football team played well to end up eventual winners of the tournament after a hard-fought match against Havering College, beating their rivals 2-1 in the final.

Sports and Fitness Manager Michael Leader said: “We won this tournament last year, so the team went in with the added pressure of being defending champions. But they did really well and have now qualified for the regional finals.”

Congratulations to our stand-out player Zidane Kabo, who was voted Player of the Tournament. Other students in the squad were: Lucas Robinson, Dylan Thorn, Ola Arogundade, Tommy Davis, Emmanuel Popoola, Josh Richardson, Tom O'Sullivan, Aaron Blair and Josh Davis.

The tournament was in support of the Mind charity which works to support those with a mental health problem:

The Badminton team became the champions of the AOC Mixed Badminton League against all the odds after going into their last match with three players missing from the team.

They played Leyton Sixth Form College in their final fixture but were unable to play the full 10 games required because of the depleted team.

However, due to the team’s excellent efforts in previous matches, they still managed to finish top of the league and are now the champions!

Michael said: “Thanks to those students who stepped in at the last minute to fill the player absences, but a massive congratulations to the core six players that have consistently held the team together and played so well throughout the year. They are: Oliver White, Mauteen Wusu, Raece Master, Olamide Owoade, Samraj Kambo and Mannah Rahman.”
