Oxbridge Conference is ‘insightful and informative’
A trip to the Oxbridge Conference held at Epsom Downs Racecourse was attended by 17 of our students, who are all part of the College’s Aiming High programme.
The visit, organised by CUBE manager Nikki Phelps and Higher Education and Employment Advisor, Lindsey Dacosta, gave students considering applying to either Oxford or Cambridge Universities the chance to attend talks by admissions officers and subject specialists. There were also current university students on hand to answer questions about day-to-day life on campus.
The presentations included course specific sessions; applying to Oxford and Cambridge; student life; making a competitive application; and student finance and careers.
There was also a Teachers and Higher Education Advisors Programme that ran for visiting staff throughout the morning giving information on additional admissions requirements, personal statements, interviews and teacher references.
Student Jasmine Leake said: “Overall, it was a good, informative experience.” Student Daisy Middleton added: “It was very useful for those wanting to go to Oxford or Cambridge, as well as for finding out tips and other details on specific courses.”
Student Ewan Newall said: “The competitive application talk was insightful and reassuring and the subject talk I attended was interesting and demonstrated the range of disciplines that the degree would combine.”
