Sports Careers Day gets students fit for their future
A special Careers Day aimed at students studying Sports BTEC courses was held to raise awareness of the opportunities open to young people when they leave College.
The inspiring day included presentations from a Sports Coach, Personal Trainer and Physiotherapist as well as talks about sports-related degrees from the University of East London (UEL), University Campus of Football Business (UCFB) and the University of Chichester.
The event was organised as part of Linking London's National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) in partnership with Havering Sixth Form College. NCOP is a Government-funded programme which aims to increase awareness of the range of higher level opportunities available and enable students to make informed decisions about their future, whether that might be studying for a Higher Education qualification, commencing an Apprenticeship or going into employment.
Suzanne Humphreys, NCOP Engagement Officer for Linking London, who is based at College, said: “We had some very positive feedback from the students with many of them describing the event as motivational.”
One student said: “It was engaging and has made me think very positively about my future. It has got me interested in learning more and planning for possible jobs.”
Another said: “I found all of the sessions useful and I now have a greater understanding about what I want to do next.”
