Winning weekend puts Peach through to National Schools Judo finals

Student Peach James won Gold and Silver medals in a weekend of Judo success.

The Heart of Oak Judo Club member, pictured here in blue, competed at the London area qualifier for Havering Sixth Form College at the British Schools’ National Championships – and took the top spot, winning Gold.

She then returned to the University of East London venue the following day to compete in the British National London Colleges and University Open. This competition attracted competitors from all over the country and Peach really had to fight hard but she dug deep and reached the runner-up position, taking the Silver.

Peach, who manages to combine her Judo training and competitions with studying BTEC Media Production (Gaming), A Level Music and AS Studio Art at College was thrilled that she was able to rise to the challenge and win two medals in two days.

The former Palmer Catholic Academy pupil will now go forward to represent Havering Sixth Form College in Sheffield at the British Schools Judo Championships Finals in April 2017.

A College spokesperson said: “This was a high profile qualifier with many outstanding competitors and Peach did extremely well to win the Gold medal. To then return the following day and take the Silver in a separate competition was the icing on the cake for her.”
