Governor Vacancies

The Corporation of Havering Sixth Form College currently have two vacancies:

Independent Member

We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference to the lives of young people.  You will join a friendly team of Governors who bring different skills and expertise to the Corporation, supporting and challenging the Principal and his team.  It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you live or whether you work or not, as long as you are enthusiastic, interested in young people and are able to commit to attending approximately 14 meetings per year.

Co-opted Member of the Audit Committee.

Being a Co-opted Member means that you are a Member of one Committee only.  The commitment would be to attend three meetings each year (one per term) however there would be the opportunity to attend other Corporation meetings and training events if you wished to do so.  The work of the Audit Committee includes Risk Management, reviewing Policies on behalf of the Corporation, appointing Auditors, approving the Audit Plans and monitoring implementation of the recommendations.  Ideally you will have a background in a relevant area such as accounting, audit or risk management.

For both positions, we provide relevant training and development opportunities.  Most meetings are held in the early evening (usually 6 pm) at the College in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch.  There are also two daytime conferences each year which are held on Friday afternoons.

If you are interested in exploring either opportunity further, please contact Cathy Horne, Clerk to the Corporation on 01708 514435 or by email at

The information for prospective members gives more information about being a Governor. You can also find minutes of past meetings on the College website.
